LAMOND & MURRAY DEXIS recently completed the manufacture of a precision-engineered worm wheel for a long-standing client in the defence sector. This project focused on producing a worm wheel for the customer’s gearbox, a critical component in a defence-related application. The client provided a historical reverse-engineering drawing, from which the worm wheel was to be manufactured with complete accuracy.

Using our Modul 250 gear cutting machine, our engineers set up the job with precision, preparing the hob for gear tooth cutting. The process was captured, demonstrating the cutting of the worm wheel teeth in real time.
The Solution
The Lamond & Murray team meticulously prepared the machine and cutting tools to ensure perfect alignment and tooth formation, A hob was used to cut the gear teeth, ensuring a smooth and precise profile throughout the entire 60-tooth cycle. Upon completion, the finished worm wheel underwent inspection before being dispatched, meeting all client specifications and tolerances.
This project highlighted the versatility of our Modul 250 gear cutting machine, which is capable of producing a wide range of gear types, from spur and helical to specialised forms like worm gears, Our in-house capability to cut gears to custom specification, even from legacy drawings, is a key advantage in supporting critical industries like defence.
